PhotoPort Beta — Support
Move photos and videos between your own devices, directly over your local network. Nothing is uploaded to anyone's servers.

We usually reply within two working days. Telling us your device model, your OS version, and what you saw on screen makes it far quicker to help.
Getting started
- PhotoPort needs two devices
- The app transfers files directly between two devices you own — there is no cloud in the middle. Install it on both, sign in to the same account on each, and pair them. One device on its own can still use Save Space (below), but transfers need a partner.
- Pairing
- Open the app on both devices. On one, tap Scan QR code; on the other, tap Show my QR code. Point the first at the second. Pairing is symmetric — once it succeeds, either device can send to the other.
- Both devices must be on the same network
- Same Wi-Fi, and it must be a network that allows devices to talk to each other. Guest networks and some public Wi-Fi block this and pairing will not find anything.
- Allow the local network prompt
- On iOS the app asks for permission to find devices on your local network. If you decline it, the app cannot see your other device at all. You can change it later in Settings → PhotoPort Beta → Local Network.
Common problems
- My devices can't find each other
- Check all three: both on the same Wi-Fi, local network permission granted on iOS, and both signed in to the same account. If the network is a guest or corporate one, try a home network or a personal hotspot — many public networks deliberately stop devices from seeing each other.
- Transfers stop when I lock my iPhone
- Uploads already under way keep going after the screen locks, but iOS stops the app from preparing new files after a short while. Backup continues in stages: each time the system wakes the app, another batch goes. Leaving the app open and the screen on is the fastest way to move a large backlog.
- My iPhone can't receive while it's in my pocket
- iOS does not let any app listen for incoming connections while it is suspended. To receive files on an iPhone, bring the app to the foreground. Sending in the background does work.
- A video takes a few seconds to start playing
- The first play of a video stored on the other device has to copy it out of that device's photo library, which takes a moment. It is quicker afterwards. If the file is in iCloud with "Optimise Storage" on, it may need downloading first.
- I reinstalled the app and my pairings are gone
- Reinstalling can replace the identity key that pairing is built on, and the other device will no longer recognise this one. Pair the two devices again.
Save Space
- What it does
- Finds photos and videos on your device that can be made smaller, shows how much space each would free, and compresses the ones you choose.
- It works on a single device
- You do not need a paired device to use Save Space. If a file has no backup on another device, the app tells you clearly before you compress it, because the original quality cannot be recovered afterwards.
- Where files that were backed up go
- A file backed up to your other device stays there at full quality. Deleting the copy on your phone afterwards does not lose it.
Your account and data
- Deleting your account
- Tap your avatar → Delete account. This removes your account, your device records and your usage statistics, and unpairs your devices. Photos and videos on your phone are untouched. If you cannot reach the app, email us and we will delete your account data within 30 days.
- What we can and cannot see
- We never receive your photos or videos — they go straight from one of your devices to the other. We store your account email, an account identifier, and a small record per device so your devices can find each other. There are no advertising or analytics SDKs in the app.
