PhotoPort Beta — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 September 2026
PhotoPort Beta (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is developed by the Photo Port Team. This policy explains what data the app handles and your choices. It applies to the app on all platforms it is distributed for: iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and Linux.

Summary
- We collect the email address and an account identifier for your account, used only to sign you in and to group your own devices together.
- Your photos and videos are never uploaded to our servers. They are transferred directly between your own devices on your local network, or to a USB drive you connect — peer to peer.
- We store a small amount of device and pairing information so your devices can find each other.
- We use no advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, and no tracking. We do not sell or share your data.
- You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from inside the app.
What we collect and why
Account information
- Email address, via Google Sign-In or email/password (Firebase Authentication).
- Account identifier (the Firebase user ID) — the key your device records are stored under.
- Display name, if you choose to provide one when creating an account.
Purpose: to authenticate you and to group your devices under one account. This data is linked to your identity, is used only to make the app work, and is never used for advertising or tracking.
Device and pairing information (stored in Google Cloud Firestore)
- A device identifier generated by the app, device name, platform, local network address (LAN IP and port), a public key used to secure transfers, your active paired-device selection, and a last-seen timestamp.
Purpose: to let your signed-in devices discover and securely pair with each other. These records are readable only by your own account.
The matching private key never leaves the device — it is held in the platform keystore (iOS/macOS Keychain, Android Keystore) and is never transmitted to us or to anyone else.
Usage statistics
- Aggregate counters such as the number of files and total bytes you have backed up or reclaimed.
Purpose: to show you your own storage savings inside the app. These are totals, not a record of which files you transferred — we never receive filenames, thumbnails, or content.
Photos and videos
The app requests access to your photos and videos so it can back them up to your other paired device or to a USB drive you connect, and create smaller on-device copies when you use Save Space.
These files are never sent to us or to any third-party server. They move directly between your own devices over your local network, or to storage you physically connect. We never receive, store, or have any access to your media.
Permissions we request
All platforms
- Photos and videos — to read the media you choose to back up, and to manage the smaller copies Save Space creates. The app does not access your audio or music files.
- Local network access — to discover your own devices and transfer to them directly. Nothing is sent to the internet by this feature.
- Camera (optional) — to scan a pairing QR code.
iOS and macOS
- Photo library (
NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription) — as above. - Local network and Bonjour
(
NSLocalNetworkUsageDescription) — to find your other devices on the same Wi-Fi network. - Camera (
NSCameraUsageDescription) — QR pairing only. - Background transfers — uploads already in progress may continue while the app is in the background. They go only to the device you paired with.
- Live Activities and the home-screen widget — show backup progress and your Save Space totals. The data behind them is shared between the app and the widget through a private app group container on your device, and does not leave it.
Android
- READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / READ_MEDIA_VIDEO (or selected media) — as above.
- Network and Wi-Fi state, multicast — to discover your paired devices.
- Foreground service and notifications — to keep a transfer running and show its progress while the app is in the background.
- USB host (optional) — to detect a USB drive you choose as a backup target. The drive is accessed only through Android's Storage Access Framework, after you explicitly grant it.
Third-party services
- Google Firebase — Authentication and Cloud Firestore, providing sign-in and the device-pairing directory. Google's handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
- Google Sign-In — only if you choose it as your sign-in method.
We use no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, and we do not track you across apps or websites.
Data retention and deletion
- Device and usage records persist for as long as your account exists.
- In-app deletion: open the account menu (tap your avatar) → Delete account. This permanently removes your account and everything stored with it — your device records and usage statistics — and unpairs your devices. The photos and videos on your phone are not affected.
- By email: if you cannot reach the app, write to photo.port.support@gmail.com and we will delete your account data within 30 days.
Children's privacy
PhotoPort Beta is not directed to children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date at the top.
